SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY, AZTEC MARKET

The renovation of University Towers at San Diego State University Towers involved upgrading the food service facility and portions of the first floor, surrounding site, and overall image. The existing towers were built in 1966 and included 9-story, 560-bed residential tower and 8,000 square foot single story food service facility built in 1966.

The reconfiguration of the first floor tower increases efficiency, expands functionality, and designates a single, secure entry point for the students. New durable and aesthetic finishes upgrade the tower’s image as a modern student residence. The food service renovation provides a community-oriented restaurantwith an open kitchen, convenience store, and seating options that en-courage social gathering. An exhibition kitchen is the focal point of the new dining hall so that students can watch their food being prepared. The design integrates green building standards with recycled products, operable windows, daylighting / skylights and high efficiency demand control ventilation.
