WEAPONS & ARMAMENT RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT & EVALUATION LAB

The Weapons and Armament Reasearch Development and Evaluation Lab (RDT&E) achieved LEED Gold.

The Weapons and Armament RDT&E Facility houses two large RDT&E high bay labs surrounded by 16 smaller high bay labs. The high bays are equipped with 15,000 pound rated bridge cranes with a minimum of 25 feet clearance between the hook and the finish floor. The smaller lab bays each have 1,000 pound bridge cranes for lifting missile and weapons components. The “Sparrow Missile Laboratory” and “Build-up Area” will each are supplied with 2,000 pound bridge cranes for lifting heavier components.

In addition to the high bay lab spaces, the building has electrical labs with raised flooring, harm missile lab, sidewinder missile lab, and a machine shop with a spray paint booth. Additional specialized areas include a “Build-up Area”, a “Common Munitions Bit Reprogrammable Equipment (CMBRE) Laboratory”, and a fabrication and repair laboratory. All of these laboratories are provided with sound attenuation.

Open office areas with modular furniture cubicles are provided for the technicians, scientists and engineers. The remainder of the facility includes a reception / lobby, six enclosed private offices for management personnel, a technical library, conference room, restrooms, shower rooms, break / lunch area, a communication room and a SIPRNET communication room. This building is designed to be a focal point of the Navy’s Weapons and Armament RDAT&E activities. The forms and exterior appearance tie into the adjacent buildings with the pedestrian plaza.
